Can you help with my graphic designer’s block?
I have a client who does spray on bed liners, lift kits, step bars, grill guards, wheels, tires, etc for 4×4 trucks, suvs and jeeps. He wants some “cool” t-shirt designs that tells all about what they offer. He also wanted one that was specifically about the spray on bed liners (which I have almost completed and it looks good). I’m just stuck on what to do for the other(s). Any ideas?
Were this my client, I would have spent time talking with him about his business, clientelle, etc.
A HUGE piece, missing from your description of the job is the client’s business name. The name, alone, may suggest the approach you take. If the busines uses his personal name, perhaps his ethnicity may suggest something. If the name has a regional connection, then the geography of the location may suggest another approach.
Your description lists trucks and SUVs as a large part of his business. Perhaps an exaggerated illustration of a vehicle, loaded with as many of his after market products is in order. (BIG wheels, giant grill guard, overloaded light bar, wild decals, etc.) Perhaps a “creature” made entirely of automotive parts and accessories.
An airbrushed look to this would suggest a custom made tee shirt, which are expensive and very popular. If your design could make the shirt LOOK custom brushed, it would be very desireable, and I would expect that is what your client wants: A tee shirt EVERYBODY wants to wear.
As an illustrator, primarily, I would push towards this kind of solution.
